Wales – New Treatments Fund

In the Welsh Assembly yesterday (28th September) a debate was held on the establishment of the New Treatments Fund.

Vaughan Getting, the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Well-being and Sport made a statement in front of the Welsh Assembly on Tuesday providing an update on the progress of the Independent Review of the Individual Patient Funding Request Process (IPFR) and also establishing a new Treatment Fund.

Gething outlined how work (which would include a £80m investment over the life of the Government), on the Treatment Fund was progressing. The purpose of the fund is to allow the introduction of new medicines and treatments for life-threatening diseases which meet NICE and the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) criteria.
