New Minister Appointed for Life Sciences

A Ministerial reshuffle in the House of Lords saw Lord Prior move from the Department of Health to BEIS and Lord O’Shaughnessy join the Government as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health and also a Government Whip.

Lord O’Shaughnessy will take over Lord Prior’s responsibilities which include the life science industry.

James O’Shaughnessy was one of the young, former policy advisors appointed to the House of Lords in 2015.  Educated at Wellington College and Oxford he worked for the Prime Minister, David Cameron, as his Director of Policy between 2010 and 2011. Between 2007 and 2010 he was Director of Policy and Research for the Conservative Party and was responsible for writing the Party’s 2010 General Election Manifesto. Before this he was Deputy Director of the think tank Policy Exchange where he focused on education and housing. In 2013 he set up Floreat Education a chain of Academies and Free Schools.  He was appointed to the House of Lords in 2015 in recognition of his service to education and public policy. In February 2016 he was appointed as a fellow at the Legatum Institute where again he focused on education.
