Farmaindustria and EFPIA Welcome European Trade Treaty with Canada

The European employers’ organisation of the innovative pharmaceutical industry (EFPIA) has issued a statement, posted on Farmaindustria’s website, in which it welcomes the agreement reached in the European Parliament for the signing of the Economic and Trade Treaty between the European Union and Canada (CETA), which will, in the opinion of EFPIA, “consolidate and harmonise the protection of industrial property in the pharmaceutical field, favouring access to new medicines for patients Europeans and Canadians.”

The director of the Department of International Farmaindustria, Iciar Sanz, said that the CETA will “increase efficiency in the approval of new drugs through greater regulatory harmonisation, promote also creating employment in the pharmaceutical sector and will result in an optimisation of resources thanks to mutual recognition of the inspection of production plants.”
