Sir Mark Walport to Step Down as Government Chief Scientific Advisor

In a letter dated the 16th February Sir Mark Walport, Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) to the Government has written to Stephen Metcalfe MP, clarifying the number of CSAs currently in place in the main Whitehall departments, he also explained that he was working with colleagues at the Department for Exiting the EU and the Department for lnternational Trade to ensure the right science advisory arrangements are in place for them. He also outlined how the process for appointing a new CSA to the Home Office is in the advanced stage, whilst the Minisitry of Defence and HM Treasury were also looking to appoint CSAs shortly.

Important to note is Walport’s comments at the end of the letter where he advised that the recruitment process to choose his successor as Government CSA will be under way shortly.
