Parliamentary Exchange on Rare Diseases and Access to Medicines – Answered 9th March 2017

Mr Barry Sheerman MP for Huddersfield, asked the Secretary of State for Health, if he will publish details of the process by which NICE plans to create commissioning support documents on rare disease medicines for NHS England in 2017.

Nicola Blackwood, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health replied:
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has advised that it has been commissioned by NHS England to support the development of clinical commissioning policies for licensed (or soon-to-be licensed) technologies that are directly commissioned by NHS England. NICE is working with NHS England to agree how this will be achieved and will publish full detail in due course.
