Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency – Annual Report and Accounts 2016/17

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have published their annual report and accounts for the years 2016-2017. The report highlights that this year’s objectives were to maximise the Agency’s public health impact both within the UK public health and healthcare systems and through active engagement with European and global regulatory networks. In particular, there has been a renewed focus on establishing strong, effective and purposeful partnerships.

On Exiting the European Union, the MHRA state that their reaction has been “swift and comprehensive”, and as part of the UK Government, support the desire for the UK to retain a close working partnership with Europe in respect of medicines regulation after we leave the EU, as demonstrated in a letter in the Financial Times on 4 July by the Secretary of State for Health and Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
