World’s First VR Surgery

Virtual reality (VR) headsets are set to revolutionise surgery. Surgeons from London and Mumbai put on VR headsets to view a London theatre and jointly operate on an NHS patient in real time.

The technology not only remotely displayed images and patient notes to the overseas experts, but also created avatars of the two remote surgeons, allowing the doctors to discuss any potential complications which may occur during the procedure.

As well as providing surgeon reassurance, the technology is also thought to revolutionise patient safety.
