British company bids to rival US-made surgical robot

CMR surgical are ready to launch their robotic surgery system Versius in the UK next year, and are currently pursuing regulatory approval in Europe. It is designed to undercut the leading American equivalent Da Vinci, used in over 70 NHS hospitals.

CMR Surgical CEO Martin Frost says of Da Vinci:

“Not only do they cost £2m each to buy but every procedure costs an extra £3,000 using the robot – and they are very large. Many hospitals have to use the operating theatre around the robot”
