Connected insulin pens expected to launch in 2019

Novo Nordisk has revealed its intention to launch networked insulin pens. The two devices will have the functionality to work with continuous glucose monitoring and blood glucose monitoring systems.

The launch will address a need expressed by patients and caregivers, showing that linking the various technologies used by diabetics will make things easier for patients.

“After receiving caregiver feedback, we knew a global roll-out was the right thing to do,” said Camilla Sylvest, referring to a 2017-18 Swedish pilot in collaboration with Glooko. “During the pilot, healthcare providers noted that patient dialogues improved without having to invest additional time.”

MAP expects to see further developments linking various pieces of MedTech to each other in the current environment of the Internet of Things.
