NHS England has reported that it has successfully defended its single largest medicines procurement deal for medicines after a legal challenge from AbbVie. The procurement was for hepatitis C medicines with three bidders – AbbVie, Gilead Sciences and MSD.
The winner of the procurement has not yet been announced but NHS England describes it as:
“the latest in a series of ‘smart deals’ the NHS has delivered to drive value for the taxpayer and benefits for patients.” – NHS
It once again demonstrates NHS England’s robust approach to pharmaceutical negotiations and willingness to defend its methods, even in the face of legal challenge.
