European Parliament votes to confirm its position on HTA, despite Council disagreement

The European Parliament has voted to confirm its position on a joint EU-wide Health Technology Assessment (HTA) amid disagreement amongst the European Council.

The debate and vote was held to confirm the position of the Parliament initially adopted in October 2018. This news comes as the European Council are still yet to agree a common position with the key sticking point whether and EU-wide HTA should be mandatory.

This vote also comes as the presidency of the European Council passed to Romania.

Regarding what the rotation of the presidency means for HTA, Romanian Health Minister said:

“Romania’s presidency aims at continuing negotiations in order to make as much headway as possible in order to reach a general approach at Council level”
