HEE publishes report on the impact of mental health on NHS staffing

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has announced new plans to improve mental health support for NHS staff, in an effort to reduce time lost due to staff mental health issues and associated poor morale, and help reduce the number of staff leaving the NHS.

The moves follow publication of a report by Health Education England (HEE) looking at the issue.

The report is now set to be considered in a ‘workforce implementation plan’ led by Baroness Harding who Chairs NHS Improvement, and the chief executive of Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.

Staffing concerns, and the impact of staff attrition, remain significant concerns as the NHS begins to implement the reforms outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan, and comes only a few days after a report by The Health Foundation painted a worrying picture on NHS staffing, recruitment, and training.
