NHS to introduce digital portal to increase efficiency

NHS England has announced that it is introducing a digital portal which will allow staff to monitor available vacancies in social care and other non-hospital services.

NHS England anticipates that this could save hours of time in determining where vacancies are across hospitals and local care homes, preventing people who are medically fit enough remaining in hospital for longer than necessary.

Commenting on the announcement, Chief Nursing Officer Ruth May said:

“One of the central ambitions of the NHS Long Term Plan is to better support people to age well, and that means joining up different services locally to better meet people’s needs.

“By using this technology to work together more closely, hospitals, local authorities and care homes can ensure that people get the right care in the right place at the right time, and aren’t left waiting in hospital unnecessarily.”

This announcement follows the trend of the Department of Health and Social Care advocating the benefits of adopting digital technology within the NHS.
