Matt Hancock has responded to US officials by saying that the “NHS is not for sale” as part of any post-Brexit trade negotiations with the US.
Hancock, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, responded to comments made by both President Trump and US Ambassador Woody Johnson, saying:
“My American friends, know this: The NHS is not for sale. Yes we’d love to make it cheaper to buy your life-saving pharmaceuticals – but the NHS will not be on the table in any future trade talks.”
This was in response to President Trump’s assertion that the NHS could be part of trade negotiations following Brexit.
“When you’re dealing with trade everything is on the table, so the NHS or anything else, or a lot more than that.
“But everything will be on the table, absolutely.” – President Trump
