Northern Ireland: Regional Guidance for Trusts interfacing with Pharmaceutical and Related Industry Representatives

Guidance has been published by the Northern Ireland Department of Health to ensure a standard approach to interactions with Trusts across the country.

The guidance has been issued as part of the Medicines Optimisation and Regional Efficiency (MORE) project, establishing protocols for:

  • Representatives visiting Trust premises
  • The provision of information and education
  • The management of samples

The guidance applies to licensed and unlicensed medicines, medical gases, dressings, dietetic products, disposable medical and surgical devices, CE marked sundries and in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) which are managed by Trust pharmacy departments.

Cathy Henson, the Acting Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, says in her letter:

“This new regional guidance is a harmonisation and updating of current Trust policies and a draft version has been shared with relevant stakeholders for comment. Trusts are asked to disseminate this guidance to staff with the support of medical, nursing, pharmacy and AHP leads for immediate implementation.”

The full guidance is available here.
