DHSC updates ventilator specifications for COVID-19

Minimally acceptable performance of ventilators for use in treating coronavirus patients has been updated by the Department of Health and Social Care to guide manufacturers of the technology.

Several manufacturing consortiums have formed around a concerted effort to provide more ventilators to the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic. Many of these groups contain manufacturers from outside the MedTech field, including Formula 1 teams and other companies.

DHSC has provided extensive guidance to assist these groups in developing their products.

The latest version more precisely defines the minimally acceptable level of performance for ventilators, as described by medical professionals and regulators.
