Health Minister Jens Spahn has announced 3 billion euros to enable hospitals to invest in digitisation, IT security, and emergency capacities. Federal states will contribute a further €1.3 bn.
The funding, under the Krankenhauszukunftsfonds (KHZF, hospital future fund) Bill enables projects to modernise the hospital system across the country. The money will be spent through smaller projects, of which federal states and/or the hospital operators will fund 30%. Projects can begin from the start of September 2020, and funds can be applied for until 31st December 2021.
Minister Spahn said:
“German hospitals and clinics need an investment boost. The federal and state governments are therefore investing over 4 billion euros in modern emergency facilities, digital solutions and the highest level of IT security. This is how we improve patient care and ensure greater safety.”
