EU-JAMRAI launches app to tackle antibiotic resistance

The Joint Action against Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections (EU-JAMRAI) has launched its app, Micro-Combat, aiming to tackle antibiotic resistance.

EU-JAMRAI was created in September 2017 with the objective of bringing together the efforts of EU member states, international organisations and academic institutions in order to fight against antimicrobial resistance. Antibiotics are becoming less effective over time due to the growing resistance of bacteria to these treatments. The loss of efficacy of antibiotics is a major threat to public health.

The app, Micro-Combat, aims to make younger generations aware of the risk of antimicrobial resistance and promote responsible use of antibiotics. It has been developed in collaboration with the Instituto de Salud Global de Barcelona (ISGlobal), and in 2018 was awarded the ‘Prize for best communication and awareness on antibiotic resistance initiative’ by the Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios (AEMPS). It is a card game available in 18 languages.
